Purpose of Writing: The Book of 1 John seems to be a summary that assumes the readers’ knowledge of the gospel as written by John and offers certainty for their faith in Christ. The first epistle indicates that the readers were confronted with the error of gnosticism, which became a more serious problem in the second century. As a philosophy of religion it held that matter is evil and spirit is good. The solution to the tension between these two was knowledge, or gnosis, through which man rose from the mundane to the spiritual. In the gospel message, this led to two false theories concerning the person of Christ, Docetism—regarding the human Jesus as a ghost—and Cerinthianism—making Jesus a dual personality, at times human and at times divine. The key purpose of 1 John is to set boundaries on the content of faith and to give believers assurance of their salvation.

Reason of The Book of 2 John
Author. John the apostle was the writer of the second book of John, although he does not give his name he refers to himself as “the elder.” Early Christian writers recognized John as the author, and there are clear similarities with the first epistle.
Audience. The epistle of 2 John addresses the “elect lady,” and there is speculation regarding who this lady was. Some believe it was a prominent believer in the local church, or perhaps all Christians.
Purpose. John wrote his second epistle to show his appreciation of the faithfulness of this “lady and her children,” and to encourage her to walk in love and to keep the Lords Commandments. He warns her against false teachers, and informs her that he plans to visit very soon. John also greets her “sister.”
Date. 2 John is thought by many Bible teachers to of been written in John’s old age, about 90 AD. There is no clear evidence when the book was written or where it was written from.

Introduction to The Book of 3 John
Brief Summary. The epistle of 3 John is a letter where John commends a Christian man named Gaius who showed warm hearted hospitality to certain missionary helpers of John’s. These same missionaries had been treated badly by an officer of the local church named Diotrephes. Not only does John commend Gaius for his hospitality but he calls him beloved four times. John writes this letter to inform Gaius as to how to deal with this situation and to tell him of his plan to visit him and the church as soon as possible.
Reason of The Book of 3 John
Author. The three epistles of John are surely the work of one man and most scholars conclude that it is John the apostle. 2 John and 3 John are almost exactly the same length, and the phraseology is extremely similar.
Audience. The epistle of 3 John is addressed to Gaius, and there are three men named Gaius in the New Testament (1 Corinthians 1:14; Acts 19:29; Acts 20 :4), and it is impossible to know which, if any of these is the Gaius referred to in 3 John. Gaius was a very common name in the Greek and Roman world, and this Gaius was evidently a prominent member of one of the churches that the apostle John was familiar with. Gaius was known for his hospitality.
Date. 3 John is thought by many Bible teachers to have been written in John’s old age, about 90 AD. There is no clear evidence when the book was written or where it was written from.

Introduction to The Book of Jude
Brief Summary. The apostle Jude denounces apostasy and corruption, and he contends for the faith that is once and for all delivered unto the saints.
Reason of The Book of Jude
Contents. Jude addresses the false teachers that were leading the church, he mentions the last days and he could have been addressing all false teachers throughout all ages. Some of their attributes were: ungodliness, turning the grace of God into lasciviousness, they denied Christ, they were fornicators, they despised authority, they defiled the flesh, they corrupt themselves like brute beasts, they were shepherds who only feed themselves, clouds without water, trees without fruit, Stormy waves foaming out their own shame, wandering stars in outer darkness, murmerers, complainers, boasters, lustful mockers, self seeking, division causers. Jude also encourages believers to: Build themselves up, pray in the Holy Spirit, keep themselves in the love of God, look for his mercy, have compassion, save certain ones with fear, and he ends with praise to God who will present the believer spotless to His presence.

closing prayer; Thank You Father that we can enjoy wonderful fellowship with You, simply because we have trusted Christ as our Saviour. Father we confess that there are times that sin has excluded us from Your presence and we pray that we keep a short rein on such wrong-doing, by flying to You to confess our sins. Thank You that the Lord Jesus is our righteous advocate, Who ever lives to make intercession for us. Thank you for apostle John and Jude and their writings throughout the bible. Thank you for using them as a vessel. It is to your glory. Thank You, in Jesus name we pray AMEN.
