Exodus 33:14 The Lord replied, My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.
Isaiah 14:3On the day the Lord gives you relief from your suffering and turmoil and from the harsh labor forced on you,
Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.
Mark 6:31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.
Jeremiah 6:16 This is what the Lord says: Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, We will not walk in it.
Lesson;
Our Heavenly Father wants us to have a balanced life with fun, work, and rest. Most people remember work and fun, but often forget about rest. It is important when having time with your Heavenly Father you pray to him about how he wants you to rest. The bible also mentions about how you should rest and how often. Rest is important to your spiritual walk with the Lord, and many Christians today forget about rest and how important it is to have a sabbath. Rest helps our bodies stay strong and minds to renew and gives the body more stregnth. Scripture is filled with God’s promises to provide rest when we seek Him. If you do not rest as far as your physical body goes your body will burn out, and you will be no good for anyone. Also, you will not be good spiritually either. This is why the bible states how important rest is. Anytime you go against your Heavenly Father and do not rest you are sinning, so it is important if you do this to ask for forgiveness and repent. Always rest and do not let your body and soul conk out on you. Spend time with your Heavenly Father and have a picnic lunch in a quiet place and talk to your Heavenly Father. For example. This is one thing you can do. Resting in Him means I put aside all the worldly distractions and simply focus on God and hear God’s voice. And this spiritual connection with God helps me to recenter my mental and emotional stability as well. God actually invites us to rest in Him anytime because resting is also a sign of our faith. Here are some tips for rest biblically.
1. Unplug from social media and the news.
Screen addiction is a real thing, and while these avenues may be informative, they’re also competing for your emotional and spiritual bandwidth. Give it a rest for an hour, a day, a week—whatever you can realistically spare.
- Romans 12:2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
- Isaiah 26:3: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
2. Go for a walk, and pay attention to God’s creation.
God feeds the birds and dresses the flowers (Matthew 6:25-34). “Are you not much more valuable than they?” Think about that as you walk through your neighborhood or simply sit and gaze from your back porch.
- Matthew 6:33-34: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.”
- Luke 5:16: “But he [Jesus] would withdraw to desolate places and pray.”
3. Get sleep.
Physical rest cannot be overemphasized for your emotional and spiritual health. Feeling guilty that you won’t be as productive? Remember, God rested after creating the world. Jesus slept peacefully in the middle of a violent storm (Mark 4:37-39), and He intentionally took a break from the crowds to rest, too (Matthew 14:32).
- Psalm 127:2: “It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil, for he gives to his beloved sleep.”
- Mark 6:31: “And he [Jesus] said to them [His disciples]: ‘Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest awhile.’ For many were coming and going and they had no leisure even to eat.”
4. Spend time with God.
Pray first. Ask Him to reveal Himself. Then open your Bible and read intentionally.
- James 4:8: “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.”
- 1 Chronicles 16:11: “Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.”
- Psalm 119:11: “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
5. Express your heart for the Father.
Journal. Paint. Dance. Break out the tools and get crafty. Whatever you do, do it unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23), as your expression of love for Him.
- Deuteronomy 6:5: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
- 2 Samuel 6:14: “And David danced before the Lord with all his might.”
Remember, you are His beloved creation (Jeremiah 31:3). Keep that truth with you as you conclude your time of rest.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father, I am tired. My mind is frazzled, my hands are full, and my emotions are reeling with all the things I have to do. Help me to come to you in the middle of the overwhelm. Remind me of your ever-present help in my times of need. Show me how to rest in You. In the name of Our lord and savior I pray.
This prayer below is also called the sinners prayer, and it gets people to
become a child of Our Heavenly Father or strengthens thier faith within him whenever they are already a child of Our Heavenly Father.
Prayer for salvation; Lord Jesus; Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior.Take
complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
