Lesson:
Thy will be done” is a phrase from the Lord’s Prayer that means asking God to do what he wants. It is a way of acknowledging God’s authority and trusting that he knows what is best.
What it means:
- Submission: Submitting to God’s plans and ways
- Trust: Trusting that God knows what is best for us
- Commitment: Committing to working to further God’s will
- Transformation: Asking for God’s loving plan to be realized on earth
- Humility: Surrendering to God’s will and recognizing that his plan is greater than our own
How it’s used:
- In the Lord’s Prayer, “Thy will be done” is one of three requests
- Jesus taught his disciples to pray “Thy will be done”
- Jesus himself prayed “not as I will, but as you will” and “Thy will be done”
How to pursue God’s will: Ask God for wisdom, Read the Bible, Pray consistently, Listen to others, and Evaluate all the facts.
it is in heaven, means that we are willing to go through whatever might prevent that purpose from being accomplished. Our prayer is that we want to be so aligned with the will and purpose of God that we ask God to empower us to accomplish it.We should always ask God for the grace to also accept His will. Jesus prayed this prayer and was willing to accept the Father’s will even when it was very difficult for Him to do so: “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42)
Closing Prayer: I praise You and thank You that this is Your will for me! God, I know You want to prosper and bless me in every way possible, and I desire to fully put my trust in You and relinquish my will for Yours. Right now, I repent for holding onto aspects of my life that I want to see changed. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Lord help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
