Lesson:
Holy Saturday holds significance as the day following Jesus’s crucifixion and before his resurrection, serving as a time of reflection and anticipation for many Christians. It’s a period of transition from the penitential Lenten season to the Easter celebration, a time of quiet contemplation and waiting for the resurrection. Holy Saturday is a Christian religious observance that ends the Lenten season, falling on the day before Easter Sunday. Holy Saturday is the day on which Christ reposed in the tomb. The Church calls this day the Blessed Sabbath. For Christians, Holy Saturday marks the day that Jesus’s body was in the tomb. As a result, it’s considered a day of “anticipation” as followers of Our lord and savior. It’s a day for silence, fasting and prayer, a day to quietly identify with the buried Jesus, to realize all that He has done for us and to prepare us to embrace. On Holy Saturday, the day between Jesus’s crucifixion and resurrection, his body was in the tomb, awaiting the dawn of Easter Sunday. The disciples mourned his death, and some prepared spices and ointments for anointing his body. The New Testament portrays this as a period of silence and waiting, with Jesus’s soul potentially in Sheol (the realm of the dead).
Many Christian traditions observe an Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening, which marks the transition into the joyous celebration of Easter Sunday.
Closing Prayer: O Lord Jesus, for your love, you endured the cross and the grave. Just as you rested in the tomb, we wait for your resurrection with hope and anticipation. Grant us strength to endure this silence, and guide us to a new life in your glory. Help us to reflect on your sacrifice and to see the light of your promise of new life.
Our lord and savior we pray. Please forgive me of my sins agains
t you, please come into my heart. By the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for Saving me.
