Opening Hymn: Blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord by coming on strong:
On a little donkey, two-thousand years ago
Christ rode into Jerusalem, so all the world would know
He was fulfilling prophecy, and every one could sing
And worship the Savior, Messiah, and King
And they sang
(CHORUS)
Hosanna, Hosanna
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord
Hosanna, Hosanna
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord
All the people worshipped, the little children laughed
They took the palm leaves from the trees and laid
Them in His path
Their hearts were overflowing, their spirits came alive
Emanuel the Chosen One has finally arrived
And they sang.
Sermon:
Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, a pivotal event in Christian scripture that marks the beginning of Holy Week. It’s celebrated by Christians worldwide on the Sunday before Easter, and it’s also known as Passion Sunday. The name comes from the biblical account of crowds waving palm branches and laying them on the road as Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem. As Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey many crowds were cheering and giving him the honor as the king by saying loudly hosanna in the highest heaven. This was a joyful and happy time it also foreshadows the time where Jesus would go through much suffering in a crucifixion. This begins the holy week for christians around the world and they celebrate it by reading the story of the passion of Jesus Christ.
Closing Hymn: Ride on, ride on in majesty by Henry Hart Hilman:
1 Ride on, ride on in majesty!
Hear all the tribes hosanna cry;
O Savior meek, pursue Your road
with palms and scattered garments strowed.
2 Ride on, ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die.
O Christ, Your triumphs now begin
o’er captive death and conquered sin.
3 Ride on, ride on in majesty!
The host of angels in the sky
look down with sad and wond’ring eyes
to see th’approaching Sacrifice.
4 Ride on, ride on in majesty!
Your last and fiercest strife is nigh.
The Father on His sapphire throne
awaits His own anointed Son.
5 Ride on, ride on in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die,
bow Your meek head to mortal pain,
then take, O Christ, Your pow’r and reign.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father we thank you for your word and the sacrifice of your son who died for our sins and took the place of us. We thank you for allowing that to happen so we may have a chance to be with you in eternal life. We thank you in the name of Our lord and savior.
