Opening Hymn: Forgive us our debts by a thousand tongues:

Verse 1:

O for a thousand tongues to sing

My great Redeemer’s praise,

The glories of my God and King,

The triumphs of His grace!

Verse 2:

My gracious Master and my God,

Assist me to proclaim,

To spread through all the earth abroad

The honors of Thy name.

Verse 3:

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,

That bids our sorrows cease;

‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears,

‘Tis life, and health, and peace.

Verse 4:

He breaks the power of canceled sin,

He sets the prisoner free;

His blood can make the foulest clean;

His blood availed for me

Sermon:

 God provides for our needs each day, and that we should pray for new mercies and grace. We should worship God and acknowledge that he is the giver of all we need. Give us this day our daily bread” means: Do take care of all our physical needs so that we come to know that you are the only source of everything good. What does “forgive us our debts” also mean?

  • It also means that we should extend forgiveness and grace to ourselves and those who have sinned against us. The phrase is a metaphor that represents the need for God to forgive sins, which people commit against him.
  • Forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors” is a line from the Lord’s Prayer. It means that we should forgive others as we ask God to forgive us. This line suggests that. No one who cherishes a grudge against someone dare approach God in search of mercy.

 To fall short in righteous living is to become a debtor. For this reason we pray, “Forgive us our debts.

“Lead us not into temptation” is a phrase from the Lord’s Prayer that asks God to keep people from giving in to temptation and turning away from God. It can also mean asking God to help people avoid temptation altogether.

It’s a way of speaking. It’s a manner of getting a point across to say: “When we are tempted, Lord, lead us away from it. Get us out of it.

God doesn’t tempt us but He allows us to be tempted. So you’re praying to be lead away from that. The “not into” part just means the opposite of into.

deliver us from the evil one” means asking God to protect us from the influence and temptations of the devil and the forces of evil, seeking his deliverance from spiritual harm and adversity.

  • It’s a prayer for God’s intervention and protection, asking for his power to help us overcome temptation and evil.
    Satan/the devil), it also encompasses the broader concept of evil and its influence in the world.
    Jesus adds a balance to this request, “but deliver us from evil.” This phrase could mean, “deliver us from the temptations of the evil one.”

having “knowledge of God” means understanding God’s love, goodness, and care, and learning to trust in Him and seek His guidance in their lives. It’s all about childlike trust. You can help your children understand God, then, by nurturing their inborn sense of wonder. You can also encourage their confidence by reminding them that they have an unseen Heavenly Father Who watches over and cares for them.

Verse 1

In shadows deep, where darkness dwells,

We seek a light that brightly swells,

From trials hard, and dangers grim,

Lord, hear our plea, this humble hymn.

Deliver us from the evil one,

Thy grace on us, until life’s run,

Lead us not into temptation’s snare,

But guide our steps with loving care

To stray from truth, and heedless fall,

Thy grace on us, until life’s run,

Lead us not into temptation’s snare,

But guide our steps with loving care.
