  • Matthew 6:15
“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”

Forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors” is a line from the Lord’s Prayer. It means that we should forgive others as we ask God to forgive us. This line suggests that forgiveness is a mutual process, and that we are closely connected to others and to God through forgiveness.

Explanation

  • Debts
In the Bible, “debt” and “debtor” are used in a moral sense to refer to our obligation to live righteously. We are debtors to God when we fall short of living righteously.
  • Forgiveness
The prayer implies that we should forgive others unconditionally and mercifully, as God forgives
  • Relationships
The prayer is important for maintaining relationships with others and with God.
  • Sin
The prayer is a reminder that we all sin and need God’s forgiveness

The prayer is part of the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus taught his disciples to pray this way.

It means: No one who cherishes a grudge against someone dare approach God in search of mercy.

Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors” is a line from the Lord’s Prayer that means to forgive others as a condition of receiving forgiveness from God. The phrase is a metaphor for asking God to forgive sins.

In the Lord’s Prayer, “debtors” refers to people who owe a moral or financial obligation, or someone who has wronged you. The Greek word for “debtors” is opheiletes, which means “one who owes another”.

Debt and debtor are used in a moral sense also as indicating the obligation of a righteous life which we owe to God. To fall short in righteous living is to become a debtor. For this reason we pray, “Forgive us our debts.

Closing Prayer: And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one in the name of our lord and savior we pray.

Our lord and savior we pray. of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
