Lesson:

Forgive us our debts” is a line from the Lord’s Prayer that asks God to forgive sins. It appears in the fifth request of the prayer. The word “debts” refers to sins or transgressions.

  • It suggests that we have failed to pay what we owe to God.
  • It means that we have done things we shouldn’t have done, and left undone things we should have done.

Why do we ask for forgiveness?

  • We ask for forgiveness because we are sinners who deserve God’s wrath.
  • We ask for forgiveness because we want to establish a meaningful relationship with God.
  • We ak for forgiveness because we want to experience God’s unconditional love and forgiveness.

What does “forgive us our debts” also mean?

  • It also means that we should extend forgiveness and grace to ourselves and those who have sinned against us.
  • It is a request and a declaration.
  • It is a way to maintain our relationships with God and with others.

In this line, Jesus is asking God to forgive sins, which he compares to debts. The phrase is a metaphor that represents the need for God to forgive sins, which people commit against him.

How to pray this line

The phrase “debts” is used in some Christian traditions, while others use “trespasses” or “sins”. The tradition that influenced a person’s Christian upbringing often determines which word they use.

What does this line mean?

The line asks God to forgive sins, while also acknowledging that people should forgive those who sin against them. It’s a way of asking God to strengthen a person’s fellowship with him.

Closing Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Our lord and savior we pray. of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
