- Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” This verse highlights the importance of gathering together in faith, which resonates with the song’s call to come together.
- Psalm 145:18-19: This passage states, “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” This verse can be seen as a reflection of the song’s message of seeking God’s help and finding solace in faith.
Lesson:
Many people today like to sing the song Kumbaya; it is especially popular in summer camps and programs. But what does it mean. Our Heavenly Father considers that song to be a call to him to come and help and a call to have unity and working together.
Most of the time it is for a very tough time and where there is great hardship. It was used to help with the times of slavrey in west Africa. At times it can sound like someone is crying or very sad, but it really is signaling Our Heavenly Father to bring fourth his presence heavily among the people. The song’s message of God “coming by here” can be seen in various biblical stories where Jesus heals the sick, casts out demons, and performs other acts of compassion. Each word of the song title is an actual Hebrew word: Kum means arise; bah means come or is coming and Yah is the name of the Eternal God. God, arise and come. Arise and come, God.
Closing Prayer: Lord, we lift our voices, echoing the plea of “Kumbaya,” “Come by here,” to you. We see suffering, hardship, and injustice around us, and we desperately need your presence and intervention. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Our lord and savior we pray. Please forgive me of my sins against you, please come into my heart. By the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for Saving me.
