Jesus and our Heavenly Father intended for Christmas to be fun time, peaceful and joyful, and to give each other gifts of things we needed or wanted, but it was never intended to be like it is today. It was just a way to give each other a gift to enjoy throughout the year. He wanted us to enjoy gifts since he could not enjoy them at his birthday. He decided for everyone else to get gifts. Here are 5 ways to help cut down commercialism at christmas by Family Life
Stop asking children what they want for christmas.
Do not use lists
Downplay the role of Santa
Focus on the real gift
Invite Jesus to the party
What Jesus would rather us do is spend more time with him, have fun with friends and family and read the bible. Also play christmas games. There are many projects where children can make decorations for the house, bake cakes and cookies. There are many things you can do on christmas for not a lot of money and still have a lot of fun and not lose the point of Jesus being born to save us from our sins. It can be done without a lot of commercialism. Making paper decorations is fun to do, as well as singing a lot of christmas carols, and rejoicing with the Lord.
Luke 2:13-14; And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
Matthew 2:10–When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
Matthew 1:20-23 (Mary’s child conceived by the Holy Spirit; He will save the people from their sins)
Closing Prayer; Father, today we celebrate the reality of Your presence in our life. We celebrate Your birth, Your life, Your death, and Your resurrection. And as we celebrate, Lord, help us to be “God with skin on” to those in need around us. Open our eyes and let us see them as You see them! We love You. Happy birthday Jesus! In Jesus name, we pray Amen.
For those who wish to become a child of Our Heavenly Father or wish to be stronger in his eyes, please say the following prayer below.
Dear Heavenly Father, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
