Opening Hymn; Come, now is the time to worship by Brian Doerksen;

Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are to worship
Come, just as you are before your God
Come
One day ev’ry tongue will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those
Who gladly choose you now
Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are to worship
Come, just as you are before your God
Come
One day ev’ry tongue will confess You are God
One day ev’ry knee will bow
Still the greatest treasure remains for those,
Who gladly choose you now
Willingly we choose to surrender our lives
Willingly our knees will bow
With all our hearts, oh, mind and strength
We gladly choose you now

Come, now is the time to worship
Come, now is the time to give your heart
Come, just as you are to worship
Oh, come, just as you are before your God
Come
Come
Come, oh
Come, oh
Come
Come, oh you nations
Come, come and worship
Oh, come (come and worship your maker!)

Sermon;
Jacob, living in Canaan, begins to feel the effects of a famine and hears there is corn in Egypt and sends his sons to buy corn in Egypt. The brothers of Joseph go to Egypt and they run into the ruler, Joseph. Joseph recognizes them, but after twenty-one to twenty-three years, they fail to recognize Joseph.
Welcome back to the story of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis. This is Genesis chapter 43 where the sons of Jacob (Israel) were arguing with their dad to let Benjamin go back with them so they could buy corn. Israel hesitated to send Benjamin with his brothers, out of fear of losing both Benjamin and Joseph.
The story continues between Joseph and his brothers. They were in Egypt attempting to buy corn. Before the brothers returned to Canaan , Joseph played one more game with them by having his steward place his royal silver cup in the bag of Benjamin to make it as if Benjamin stole it.
Joseph reveals his identity to his brothers. At first they were afraid, but Joseph calmed them, telling them that he was sent to Egypt by God. Joseph’s brothers rejoice and leave to inform their father that Joesph was alive.
Jacob and his family go to Egypt. Yes, God confirmed with Jacob that he should go down into Egypt and that God Himself would be with Jacob in Egypt. In addition to this, Jacob will see his son Joseph. The Lord promised to take him there and bring his offspring back to the land of Canaan , promised to his grandfather.
It was at this time the famine kicked in around Egypt and the land of Canaan. As the famine took sore, the economy caved in and Joseph solved it with a taxation system. Everyone was required to give a fifth of their increase to Pharaoh, except the priests.

Closing Hymn; Song of Joseph
Verse 1
Jo-seph was sold in E-gypt land,
His bro-thers did him wrong.
The ru-ler bought him and he found
A ser-vant for so long.

He proved to be a worth-y slave.
He rose in pow’r and might,
And all was go-ing well with him
‘Til he caught some-one’s sight.

Refrain
Jo-seph you are the one.You are the fav-‘rite son. God will be with you each dayUn-til your task is done.Verse 2
The wife of Po-ti-phar one day
A-bout him told some lies,
And he spent years in pri-son, but
On God he still re-lies.
One night the king had troub-ling dreams
‘Bout cat-tle and some grain.
God gave him an-swers for the king.
He said there’d be no rain.

Refrain
Jo-seph you are the one.You are the fav-‘rite son. God will be with you each dayUn-til your task is done.Verse 3
The king put Jo-seph then in charge.
They saved for time of need.
The fam-ine was ‘ore all the world,
And Jo-seph then did feed
The peo-ple of the land and then
His bro-thers came to buy.
When they learned Jo-seph was in pow’r
They feared that they would die.
Refrain
Jo-seph you are the one.You are the fav-‘rite son. God will be with you each dayUn-til your task is done.Verse 4
Now Jo-seph could have had them killed,
He was the one in charge,
But he was the for-giv-ing son,
His heart was ver-y large.
He cried with them and told them
“Have your fam-i-lies ar-rive”.
Old Ja-cob came, he cried and cried
For Jo-seph was a-live!
Refrain
Jo-seph you are the one.You are the fav-‘rite son. God will be with you each dayUn-til your task is done.
