Opening Hymn; The God of Abraham praise hymnary.com
1 The God of Abraham praise,
who reigns enthroned above;
Ancient of Everlasting Days,
and God of Love;
Jehovah, great I AM!
by earth and heaven confessed;
I bow and bless the sacred name
forever blest.
2 The great I AM has sworn;
I on this oath depend.
I shall, on eagle wings upborne,
to heaven ascend.
I shall behold God’s face;
I shall God’s power adore,
and sing the wonders of God’s grace
forevermore.
3 The heavenly land I see,
with peace and plenty blest;
a land of sacred liberty,
and endless rest.
There milk and honey flow,
and oil and wine abound,
and trees of life forever grow
with mercy crowned.
4 The God who reigns on high
the great archangels sing,
and “Holy, holy, holy!” cry
“Almighty King!
Who was, and is, the same,
and evermore shall be:
Jehovah, Lord, the great I AM,
we worship thee!”
Opening prayer; Heavenly Father we pray that the words below about the chapters and verses we learned this past week, will help these adults understand more about the Lord, Abraham, and Isac. We also pray that they get to know you better through this too. We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Sermon for Sunday August 8, 2021
An elderly Abraham, to whom God had given much, called his oldest servant to look after his belongings and to make him swear to find a wife for his son, Isaac. Abraham also made the servant swear that he would bring his son a wife from the native lands, not where he lived at the time. Abraham expressed his strong faith in God and hoped that he would send an angel to assist his servant. Abraham said then that if the girl would be unwilling to accompany him back, the servant would be free of his oath.
After Sarah died, Abraham married another wife, Keturah, with whom he fathered six children: Zimran, Medan, Jokshan, Midian, Shuah, and Ishbak. Abraham’s family began to increase. He also had concubines who gave birth to two sons. As Abraham realized that he was getting older, he decided to avoid a conflict between Isaac and his young ones by sharing with them. Abraham gave Isaac a large amount of his wealth. He passes away at 315.
How Isaac assisted his family during a terrible famine. He considered the Lord’s advice. Ultimately, Isaac became richer and more prosperous in the end.
Isaac was now 137 years old. He had become weak and blind and realized he would die soon. Therefore, he prepared to hand down all that he had to his eldest son, Esau. Before this, God spoke to Rebecca, telling her that his younger son, Jacob, would take on his kingship. Then Rebecca realized that the handing down of the estate would come soon. She also knew that she had to do something to stop Isaac from accepting that all of the items would be given to Esau.
Isaac commands his son Jacob not to take a wife from the daughters of Canaan, but instead to take a wife from back home in Mesopotamia as he and his father Abraham did. Esau saw this that it pleased his parents not to marry the Canaanites as he previously did, and went and took another wife from the daughters of Ishmael.
Jacob continues his journey east back to the land of his and his father’s nativity in Haran. When there, he runs into his uncle’s daughter Rachel and immediately falls in love. Laban, Rachel’s father, heard of the love Jacob had for his daughter and decided to capitalize on it financially.
Closing Hymn: How great thou Art by Hillsong;
How Great Thou Art
Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the world Thy hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
And when I think that God, His son not sparing
Sent Him to die I scarce can take it in
That on the cross my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And take me home what joy shall feel my heart
Then I shall bow in humble adoration and there proclaim
My God, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
How great Thou.
Closing prayer; Heavenly Father, there are so many lessons for me to learn through the lives of people like Jacob. I pray that I would not become so familiar with Bible stories, that I fail to learn the deeper lessons they teach and apply it to my life. Teach me Your will I pray, and I ask that You would align my will to Your will, so that I only say and do those things that are pleasing in Your sight. Keep me also from expressing unbelief in Your word by trying to sort out my own problem in my way, rather than trusting You to fulfil all that You have purposed. Thank You Father, that You work all things together for good, even when we stray from the path of righteousness. Keep the eyes of my heart looking to Jesus – this I ask for His name’s sake, AMEN.
Benediction; Go in peace and share what you learned this week with others, and try to be a witness to someone that is wishing to be a child of God. Remember, anyone can be the Lord’s vessel, not just a minister. It can be anyone God picks to do it. Have a very blessed and joyful week.
For those who wish to become a child of our heavenly Lord, or strengthen thier faith, please pray the following prayer below.
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be a part of your family. You said in Your Word that if I acknowledge that You raised Jesus from the dead, and that I accept Him as my Lord and Savior, I would be saved. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for forgiving me, saving me, and giving me eternal life with You. Amen!”
By saying this prayer, we believe you are born again.
