Matthew 24:2a study and the meaning.
Wednesday July 9, 2025.
Matthew 24:2, Jesus foretells the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, stating, “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”
The disciples were admiring the Temple and its grandeur when they asked Jesus about its destruction and the signs of his coming and the end of the age. Jesus’ response is a direct and emphatic declaration that the Temple, despite its impressive size and structure, would be utterly destroyed. The Temple was indeed destroyed in 70 AD by the Roman army led by Titus. The Romans, in their efforts to remove gold that had melted within the temple’s stones, literally dismantled the Temple, leaving behind only the foundation. While this verse specifically speaks of the Temple’s destruction, many scholars believe it also alludes to Jesus’ second coming at the end of time.
