Lesson:

You can celebrate Valentine’s Day in a Christ-centered way by: Praying together, Giving Christian-themed gifts, Talking about how Jesus shows his love, and Making a Valentine’s Day card with a Bible verse.

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love and affection in all its forms, including romantic, familial, and platonic. It has Christian origins and ancient Roman festival roots.

It originated as a Christian feast day to honor Saint Valentine, a martyr who was executed in the 3rd century AD.

  • It may have also originated from the Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated in mid-February.
  • It may have also had origins as a ritual to celebrate fertility and springtime.
  • The tradition of sending Valentine’s Day cards began in America in the 1840s.

It originated as a Christian feast day honoring a martyr named Valentine, and through later folk traditions it has also become a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world. Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day celebrates all forms of love—romantic, familial, and platonic—not just romance. Its origins stem from ancient Roman festivals and Christian traditions honoring St. Valentine. Expressing love and gratitude strengthens relationships and fosters a sense of connection.Another common legend states that St. Valentine defied the emperor’s orders and secretly married couples to spare the husbands from war. It is for this reason that his feast day is associated with loveBeyond its historical roots, Valentine’s Day carries spiritual significance for many individuals and communities. While the holiday has undergone secularization over time, its origins in Christian martyrdom and acts of love align with broader spiritual themes of compassion, selflessness, and devotionTradition tells us that Valentine’s Day started out as a day to remember a Christian martyr, St.Valentine. This was before the cupids, flowers and chocolates came along to take the focus off Valentine’s sacrifice.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father Help us to find joy in that as I wait for Your best for me. Help us to see Your love for us in every flower that blooms, feel it in every warm ray of sunshine, hear it in every pure and right love song, and experience it in every good and perfect gift I receive (James 1:17).

Lord help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
