1 Peter 2:24 – He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
Mark 9:31 – For he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
Mark 10:34 – And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.”
Isaiah 53:5 – But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Romans 5:6-10 – For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
Mark 8:31 – And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Matthew 12:40 – For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Good Friday is the Friday preceding Easter Sunday and is the day Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross. We can celebrate on Good Friday because Christ’s death was a sacrifice so that we could receive the gift of eternal life. The Bible tells us that Jesus bore our sins, shame, and burden on the cross. The results changed the course of humanity and what man meant for evil through killing Jesus; God meant for good!
How is Good Friday observed? Many Christians attend church services on Good Friday. These services often focus on reflecting on Jesus’ suffering and crucifixion. Some traditions include abstaining from meat, attending special processions, or participating in Stations of the Cross meditations. The day focuses on the passion and death of Jesus.” Some observe this solemn day with fasting or abstaining from meat (see Good Friday meal ideas) and/or church services that reflect on the Good Friday story in the scriptures.
We know 3 pm is significant for us on Good Friday as the hour when Christ breathed his last and died on the cross for our sins and those of the whole world. We also know it is the hour when his side was pierced with a lance; and whereupon blood and water gushed forth as a fount of mercy for all souls.
That my God in heaven cared so much about my salvation that he lived the life I should have lived and died a brutal death. Jesus, so often I can forget everything you have done for me as I go about my days. I can never say thank you enough for your sacrifice on the cross.
Good Friday Quote:”May the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross remind us of the immense love and forgiveness of God. Wishing you a solemn and reflective Good Friday.” “On this Good Friday, may you find strength and solace in the sacrifice of Jesus, and may his love guide you in all your endeavors.
Hymn: It is finished; By Bill and Gloria Gaither
Yet in my heart, the battle was still raging
Not all prisoners of war had come home
These were battlefields of my own making
I didn’t know that the war had been won
Oh, but then I heard the king of the ages
Had fought all the battles for me
And that victory was mine for the claiming
And now praise his name, I am free.
It is finished, the battle is over
It is finished, there’ll be no more war
It is finished, the end of the conflict
It is finished and Jesus is Lord
It is finished and Jesus is Lord
