Matthew 21;23-39
21:23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. By what authority are you doing these things? they asked. And who gave you this authority?
21:24 Jesus replied, I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
21:25 Johns baptismwhere did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin? They discussed it among themselves and said, If we say, From heaven, he will ask, Then why didnt you believe him?
21:26 But if we say, Of human originwe are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.
21:27 So they answered Jesus, We dont know. Then he said, Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.
21:28 What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, Son, go and work today in the vineyard.
21:29 I will not, he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.
21:30 Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, I will, sir, but he did not go.
21:31 Which of the two did what his father wanted? The first, they answered. Jesus said to them, Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.
21:32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.
21:33 Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
21:34 When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit.
21:35 The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
21:36 Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way.
21:37 Last of all, he sent his son to them. They will respect my son, he said.
21:38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, This is the heir. Come, lets kill him and take his inheritance.
21:39 So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.
Mark 11:27 By what authority are you doing these things? they asked. And who gave you authority to do this?
12:44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everythingall she had to live on.
Luke 20:1 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him.
21:4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.
Mark 12:12:1 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.
12:2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
12:3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
12:4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully.
12:5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.
12:6 He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all, saying, They will respect my son.
12:7 But the tenants said to one another, This is the heir. Come, lets kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.
12:8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
12:9 What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.
12:10 Havent you read this passage of Scripture: The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone;
12:11 the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
12:12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.
12:13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
12:14 They came to him and said, Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You arent swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?
12:15 Should we pay or shouldnt we? But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. Why are you trying to trap me? he asked. Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.
12:16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, Whose image is this? And whose inscription? Caesars, they replied.
12:17 Then Jesus said to them, Give back to Caesar what is Caesars and to God what is Gods. And they were amazed at him.
12:18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.
12:19 Teacher, they said, Moses wrote for us that if a mans brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.
12:20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children.
12:21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third.
12:22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too.
12:23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?
12:24 Jesus replied, Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
12:25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.
12:26 Now about the dead risinghave you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!
12:28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, Of all the commandments, which is the most important?
12:29 The most important one, answered Jesus, is this: Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
12:31 The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.
12:32 Well said, teacher, the man replied. You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.
12:33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.
12:34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.
12:35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?
12:36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.
12:37 David himself calls him Lord. How then can he be his son? The large crowd listened to him with delight.
12:38 As he taught, Jesus said, Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces,
12:39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.
12:40 They devour widows houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.
12:41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
12:42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
12:43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
12:44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everythingall she had to live on.
Luke 21:21:1 As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.
21:2 He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins.
21:3 Truly I tell you, he said, this poor widow has put in more than all the others.
21:4 All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.
21:5 Some of his disciples were remarking about how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and with gifts dedicated to God. But Jesus said,
21:6 As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one of them will be thrown down.
21:7 Teacher, they asked, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?
21:8 He replied: Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, I am he, and, The time is near. Do not follow them.
21:9 When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.
21:10 Then he said to them: Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
21:11 There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
21:12 But before all this, they will seize you and persecute you. They will hand you over to synagogues and put you in prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name.
21:13 And so you will bear testimony to me.
21:14 But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves.
21:15 For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.
21:16 You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.
21:17 Everyone will hate you because of me.
21:18 But not a hair of your head will perish.
21:19 Stand firm, and you will win life.
21:20 When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.
21:21 Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city.
21:22 For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.
21:23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people.
21:24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
21:25 There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.
21:26 People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
21:27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
21:28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
21:29 He told them this parable: Look at the fig tree and all the trees.
21:30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.
21:31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.
21:32 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
21:33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
21:34 Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.
21:35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth.
21:36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.
21:37 Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,
21:38 and all the people came early in the morning to hear him at the temple.
John 12:20:36
12:20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival.
12:21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. Sir, they said, we would like to see Jesus.
12:22 Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.
12:23 Jesus replied, The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
12:24 Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
12:25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
12:26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
12:27 Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.
12:28 Father, glorify your name! Then a voice came from heaven, I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.
12:29 The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
12:30 Jesus said, This voice was for your benefit, not mine.
12:31 Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.
12:32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.
12:33 He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.
12:34 The crowd spoke up, We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain forever, so how can you say, The Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?
12:35 Then Jesus told them, You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going.
12:36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light. When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.
Matthew 23:13-3623:13 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in peoples faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
23:14 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are.
23:15 Woe to you, blind guides! You say, If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gold of the temple is bound by that oath.
23:16 You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred?
23:17 You also say, If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but anyone who swears by the gift on the altar is bound by that oath.
23:18 You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
23:19 Therefore, anyone who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it.
23:20 And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.
23:21 And anyone who swears by heaven swears by Gods throne and by the one who sits on it.
23:22 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spicesmint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the lawjustice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
23:23 You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel.
23:24 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence.
23:25 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.
23:26 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.
23:27 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
23:28 Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous.
23:29 And you say, If we had lived in the days of our ancestors, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.
23:30 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets.
23:31 Go ahead, then, and complete what your ancestors started!
23:32 You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?
23:33 Therefore I am sending you prophets and sages and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town.
23:34 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
23:35 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.
23:36 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.
Matthew 24-25
24:24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
24:25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
Mark 13:13:1 As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!
13:2 Do you see all these great buildings? replied Jesus. Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.
13:3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately,
13:4 Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to be fulfilled?
13:5 Jesus said to them: Watch out that no one deceives you.
13:6 Many will come in my name, claiming, I am he, and will deceive many.
13:7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
13:8 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
13:9 You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them.
13:10 And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.
13:11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.
13:12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
13:13 Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
13:14 When you see the abomination that causes desolation standing where it does not belonglet the reader understandthen let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
13:15 Let no one on the housetop go down or enter the house to take anything out.
13:16 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak.
13:17 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!
13:18 Pray that this will not take place in winter,
13:19 because those will be days of distress unequaled from the beginning, when God created the world, until nowand never to be equaled again.
13:20 If the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive. But for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened them.
13:21 At that time if anyone says to you, Look, here is the Messiah! or, Look, there he is! do not believe it.
13:22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
13:23 So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.
13:24 But in those days, following that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
13:25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.
13:26 At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
13:27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.
13:28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.
13:29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door.
13:30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
13:32 But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
13:33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.
13:34 Its like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch.
13:35 Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come backwhether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn.
13:36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping.
13:37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: Watch!

Holy Tuesday is also known as Fig Tuesday “as it commemorates the day Jesus returned to Jerusalem from Bethany, passing a barren fig tree on the way, which he used as an example to teach his disciples.” The passages discussing this are found in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark.
According to common interpretation of the Bible, Holy Tuesday is when Jesus was issued various challenges by the Pharisees and Sadducees over subjects such as marriage in heaven, paying taxes to Caesar, and the source of His authority (Matthew 21:23—23:39; Mark 11:27—12:44; Luke 20:1—21:4). By this same interpretation, this is the day Jesus commented on the widow’s donation (Mark 12; Luke 21) and was approached by a number of God-fearing Greeks (John 12:20–36). Tuesday would also be the day Jesus spoke His seven “woes” against the Pharisees (Matthew 23:13–36) and the evening on which He delivered the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24—25; Mark 13; Luke 21:5–36).
