Revelation 2:18-19 2:18To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.
2:19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

Revelation 2:20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.
Acts 15:28-29 15:28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:
15:29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things. Farewell.
Revelation 2:21-22 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.
2:22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.
Revelation 2:23I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
Hosea 1:2 When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.
Revelation 3:1-3 To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.
3:2 Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God.
3:3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
Hear, O Israel! The Lord (יהוה ( is our God; the Lord is one” (Deut. 6:4) “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exod. 20:3; Deut. 5:7) It is very likely that some at the Sardis assembly engaged in syncretism by honoring Roman deities alongside the God of Israel.
Revelation 3:4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy.
Luke 10:20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
Jesus blesses not just the love and faithfulness alone but deeds as well. Ahab got married to the daughter of a Sidon leader. Her name was Jezebel. She was always very manipulative and controlling.What she is accused of doing (leading people into sexual immorality and consumption of idol-tainted food) lines up with the criticism already voiced to other He apparently married her for Political reasons. She practiced many things that were not of Our Heavenly Father. Many of the Israeli leaders went into a private life. The prophet Elija was the only leader that wanted to help advocate against Ahab and Jezebel. Both Ahab and Jezebel got a bad judgement in thier lives, but Our Heavenly Father took care of Elijah and his people. Imortality with Jezebel can cause sickness and illness. Many of the children of Jezebel were sinners, but decided one day to follow Jesus.
Appostle John later addresses the church in Sardis. Sardis was located about 17 kilometers (10 miles) south of the city of Thyatira at the crossroads of some of the most important roads in Asia. It lay at the foothills of Mount Tmolus in the Hermus River valley, a natural corridor that connects the Aegean and Anatolia. The city is a lot of resource of water and other goods that go from Mesopotamia and the Ionian border. Money making was another big business around the city of Sardis. Mints were always open long hours. Jews, who are fellow citizens of Rome, came to me, and showed that they had an assembly of their own. Josepheus helped bring in a lot of donations to help build a temple in Jerusalem. “That same year, twelve famous cities of Asia fell by an earthquake in the night, so that the destruction was all the more unforeseen and fearful. Many of the cities attitudes are reflected in thier people and the cultures. Years later (214 BCE), Sardis was captured by Syrians. Attackers lined the wall at the steepest point, which was arrogantly left unguarded. Yet their good and solid reputation does not correspond to the inner reality that Messiah sees. Alive but dead – like idols, they look alive, but in reality, they are dead. They must strengthen what good they have left. What do they need to remember. Jesus had a lot of ruling over the people of Sardis and when they lack in certain areas they are told to change and repent. Many of the Sardis did not walk with Our Heavenly Father correctly all the time.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father Thank you for your patience. Bring us back to what we had ‘received and heard’ (v3) – take us back to the gospel. We want to ‘hold fast’ to your message of repentance and faith. We want to never stop turning from our sin and throwing ourselves on your mercy, living active lives of faith, hope and love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Salvation to become a child of Our Heavenly Father. Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray.
