Scroll with seven seals:
Appostle John had a vision of someone on a throne holding a scroll.
Revelation 5:1Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seal.
Most of the text on the scroll was on each side, and was a good summary for what the scroll was trying to show.
There were seven seals on the scroll but the text was only really understandable to who was allowed to open the scroll. Ezekiel was shown a scroll too, and it was written on both sides. But it had to be open to be read.
Revelation 22:18-19 22:18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll.
22:19 And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.
Revelation 5:2-3
5:2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?
5:3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it.
Everyone on earth and in Heaven was supposed to hear the loud message that was given by this scroll and read by angels.
Revelation 5:4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.
Appostle John felt that he had to weep because it was getting hard to find someone that would be allowed to open the scroll. Heaven felt that many of the high court people had to find the person that would be allowed to access the scroll.
Revelation 5:5 but one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, and so he will open the scroll and its seven seals.’
Genesis 49:9 Judah is a lion’s whelp; You stand over your prey, my son. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, a mighty lion: who dare rouse him?
Isaiah 11:1, 11:10 A shoot will spring from the stock of Jesse, a new shoot will grow from his roots. That day, the root of Jesse, standing as a signal for the peoples, will be sought out by the nations and its home will be glorious.
Genesis 48:8- 10 48:8 When Israel saw Joseph’s two sons, he asked, ‘Who are these?’
48:9 ‘They are my sons, whom God has given me here,’ Joseph told his father. ‘Then bring them to me’, he said, ‘so that I may bless them.’
48:10 Now, Israel’s eyes were dim with age, and he could not see. So Joseph made them come closer to him and he kissed and embraced them.
Jacobs son Reuben is the first of his children and he thinks of Judah as a leader in a big tribe. What also makes Reuben think of the lion of Judah is the stregnth of the leadership.
Genesis 37:22, 26 37:22 ‘Shed no blood,’ said Reuben to them, ‘throw him down that well out in the desert, but do not kill him yourselves’ — intending to save him from them and to restore him to his father.37:26 Then Judah said to his brothers, ‘What do we gain by killing our brother and covering up his blood?
Joseph accused his brothers of trying to get into other people’s business, and really wished that they would get Benjamin to Egypt. Joseph believed that Benjamin did a very sinful act and would be very severely punished one day.
Judah defended Benjamin and took responsibility for what went on. Joseph eventually did try to help save the reputation of Benjamin.
Genesis 44:30 If I go to your servant my father now, and we do not have the boy with us, he will die as soon as he sees that the boy is not with us, for his heart is bound up with him; 44:31 and your servants will have sent your servant our father’s white head down to Sheol with grief.
44:32 Now your servant went surety to my father for the boy. I said: “If I do not bring him back to you, let me bear the blame before my father all my life.”
44:33 Let your servant stay, then, as my lord’s slave in place of the boy, I implore you, and let the boy go back with his brothers.
44:34 How indeed could I go back to my father and not have the boy with me? I could not bear to see the misery that would overwhelm my father.’
Judah is compared to a
lion and promised the
rule of Israel. The royal
line of Israel’s kings
would come from
Judah.
Descent from both
Judah and David was a
necessary qualification
of the Messiah. The
accounts of the life of
Jesus accordingly stress
his heritage to this very
family line.
David is a relative of Jesus and has a lot of education and is qualified to lead Israel.
Ezekiel 37:24 My servant David will reign over them, one shepherd for all; they will follow my judgements, respect my laws and practise them.
A lot of drama and family issues for the jews are discussed a lot in this chapter.
The one allowed to open the seals of the scroll is not only done based on who they are, but what they have done in deeds.
John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you will have hardship, but be courageous: I have conquered the world.
Revelation 5:6
Then I saw, in the middle of the throne with its four living creatures and the circle of the elders, a Lamb standing that seemed to have been sacrificed; it had seven horns, and it had seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits that God has sent out over the whole world.
Jesus is often referred to as the lion and the lamb. He is envisioned sitting on a throne and being stung as a lion against the adversaries and a lamb when dealing with people.
The lord Jesus one day while on his throne took a scroll. Once he did this many of the elders and creatures around him bowed in worship to him. Many of them played beautiful music on a harp and had bowls with them with an incense.
Revelation 5:7-8 5:7 The Lamb came forward to take the scroll from the right hand of the One sitting on the throne,
5:8 and when he took it, the four living creatures
prostrated themselves before him and with them the twenty-four elders; each one of them was holding a harp and had a golden bowl full of incense which are the prayers of the saints. The elders knelt down before the Lord Jesus and this shows how the people of Israel are led and many of the countries prayers. Jesus shares in how Our Heavenly Father’s personality and has rights in Heaven.
Psalm 79:13 And we, your people, the flock that you pasture, will thank you for ever, will recite your praises from age to age.
Revelation 5:9 They sang a new hymn: You are worthy to take the scroll and to break its seals, because you were sacrificed, and with your blood you bought people for God of every race, language, people and nation.
and you have purchased with your blood [people]
from every tribe and tongue and nation for God. And
you have made them a kingdom and priests to our
God. And they shall reign upon the earth… And I
looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around
the throne, and of the living beings, and of the elders.
And the number of them was ten thousands of ten
thousands, and thousands of thousands, saying with a
loud voice…” (Rev. 5:9b-12a).
Exodus 19:6 For me you shall be a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.” Those are the words you are to say to the Israelites.
+But you are a
chosen family, a royal priesthood, a
holy nation, a people for God’s
possession, so that you may proclaim
the excellence of Him who has called
you out of darkness into His marvelous
light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
all the nations and the tongues; and
they shall come and see my glory…
And they shall tell my glory among the
nations… And they shall bring all your
brothers from all the nations as an
offering to the Lord… to my holy
mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord,
even as the sons of Israel bring the
[prescribed] offering in a clean vessel
to the house of the Lord. And I shall
also take [some] of them for priests
[and] for Levites,’ says the Lord.” (Is.
66:18b-21)
Pinch
Thus, the creatures by the
throne, the elders, the crowds,
and thousands of angels all
say, “Worthy is the slain
Lamb to receive power and
riches and wisdom and
might and honor and glory
Deanelland blessing!” (Rev. 5:12b)
Daniel has a vision of Jesus. Appostle John continues his worship of Jesus very deeply.
Daniel 7:14
On him was conferred rule, honour and kingship, and all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His rule is an everlasting rule which will never pass away, and his kingship will never come to an end.
Revelation 5:13 Then I heard all the living things in creation — everything that lives in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and in the sea, crying: To the One seated on the throne and to the Lamb, be all praise, honour, glory and power, for ever and eve.
Revelation 5:14 And the four living beings were
saying: Amen. And the elders fell
down.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son to come to earth as the sinless Son of Man, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world. Only He was good enough to pay the price for my sin and the sin of the whole world, through the shedding of His life-blood on Calvary’s Cross. Only He is worthy to open the seven-sealed scroll so that Your justified judgement against sin can be poured out on the God-hating, Christ-rejecting, fallen race that refuses to receive Your free gift of salvation. Thank You that Jesus is Lord of heaven and earth Who will judge the world in righteousness and that all His enemies will one day be placed under His feet. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
Prayer of Salvation to become a child of Our Heavenly Father. Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
