The 144 thousand
The 144 thousand people in Revelation mentioned are of the seven nations talked about. Dan is
omitted from the list. Typically,
censuses were done to size up the
army, so maybe 144,000 sons of Israel
were numbered for the battle.Ninell / Shutterstock.com
We encounter four powerful
heavenly beings holding back the forces of nature from destroying the earth. All the name of all these people are listed on a plate with high priests.
Exodus 28:11 By the stone-carver’s art — seal engraving — you will engrave the two stones with the names of the sons of Israel. You will have them mounted in gold settings.
Revelation 7:4-8 7:4 And I heard how many had been sealed: a hundred and forty-four thousand, out of all the tribes of Israel.
7:5 From the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand had been sealed; from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand;
7:6 from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand;
7:7 from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand; from the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand;
7:8 from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand; and from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand had been sealed.
Revelation 7:9-17
7:9 After that I saw that there was a huge number, impossible for anyone to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands. They shouted in a loud voice,
7:10 ‘Salvation to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’
7:11 And all the angels who were standing in a circle round the throne, surrounding the elders and the four living creatures, prostrated themselves before the throne, and touched the ground with their foreheads, worshipping God
7:12 with these words: Amen. Praise and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honour and power and strength to our God for ever and ever. Amen.
7:13 One of the elders then spoke and asked me, ‘Who are these people, dressed in white robes, and where have they come from?’
7:14 I answered him, ‘You can tell me, sir.’ Then he said, ‘These are the people who have been through the great trial; they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb.
7:15 That is why they are standing in front of God’s throne and serving him day and night in his sanctuary; and the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.
7:16 They will never hunger or thirst again; sun and scorching wind will never plague them,
7:17 because the Lamb who is at the heart of the throne will be their shepherd and will guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.
Appostle John one day saw a lion be victorious.
Revelation 5:5 but one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed, and so he will open the scroll and its seven seals.’
Revelation 5:6 Then I saw, in the middle of the throne with its four living creatures and the circle of the elders, a Lamb standing that seemed to have been sacrificed; it had seven horns, and it had seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits that God has sent out over the whole world.
When an Israeli leader saw all the millions of people where he could not count them all. The people were described to be the millions that would be worshipping Our Heavenly Father.
Let’s return to the tribes and
consider why Dan is not on
the list. There are many groups divided into small groups, and some of the groups land in different locations. Revelation handles the twelve tribes in its own way,
probably to bring across some point. There were four
women in Jacob’s life: two wives and two female servants.
The book of Chronicles mentions Dan
three times but excludes Dan from a
long and detailed list found in 1 Chron
4:1–7:40.
1 Chronicles 4:1-7,40 4:1 Sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, Shobal.
4:2 Reaiah son of Shobal fathered Jahath, and Jahath fathered Ahumai and Lahad. These are the Zoreathite clans.
4:3 These are Abi-Etam, Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash, whose sister was called Hazzelelponi.
4:4 Penuel fathered Gedor, and Ezer fathered Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, first-born of Ephrathah and father of Bethlehem.
4:5 Ashhur, father of Tekoa, had two wives: Helah and Naarah.
4:6 Naarah bore him Ahuzzam, Hepher, the Timnites, and the Ahashtarites — these were the sons of Naarah.
4:7 Sons of Helah: Zereth, Zohar, Ethnan.
4:40 where they found good, fat pasture; the land was broad, untroubled, peaceful. Hamites had been living there before them.
Genesis 49:16-18 49:16 Dan will govern his people like any other of the tribes of Israel.
49:17 May Dan be a snake on the road, a viper on the path, who bites the horse on the hock so that its rider falls off backwards!
49:18 I long for your deliverance, Yahweh!
And
Israelites were healed from
a plague by looking at a
serpent set up on a pole in
the wilderness (Num 21:9).
Numbers 21:9 Moses then made a serpent out of bronze and raised it as a standard, and anyone who was bitten by a serpent and looked at the bronze serpent survived.
Dan’s military strength, an
illustration that he is able to
stand up even to the armed
cavalry.Dan is perceived as the “black
sheep of the house of Jacob.” Ironically, his
name. Dan means Judge.
one that gets judged most often.
Judges 18:30 The Danites erected the carved statue for themselves. Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Moses, and his sons after him were priests for the tribe of Dan till the day when the inhabitants of the country were carried away into exile.
1 Kings 7:29 On the crosspieces of the undercarriage were lions and bulls and winged creatures, and on top of the undercarriage was a support; under the lions and oxen there were scrolls in the style of.
Judges 8:2 He replied, ‘What have I achieved, compared with you? Is not the gleaning of Ephraim’s grapes better than the vintage of Abiezer?
Amos 8:14 The people who swear by the Sin of Samaria, who say, “Long live your god, Dan!” and “Hurrah for the pilgrimage to Beersheba!” will all fall, never to rise again.’
Dan’s people were a part of the north kingdom of Israel, but due to a lot of opposition two centers for worship were built in Jerusalem.
Jeremiah 4:14-15 4:14 Wash your heart clean of wickedness, Jerusalem, and so be saved. How long will you go on harbouring your pernicious thoughts?
4:15 For a voice from Dan shouts the news, proclaims disaster from the highlands of Ephraim.
10 And he carried me away
in the Spirit to a great and
high mountain, and showed
me the holy city, Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven
from God… and names were
written on the gates, which
are the names of the twelve
tribes of the sons of Israel.
13 There were three gates
on the east, three gates on
the north, three gates on the
south, and three gates on
the west. (Rev. 21:10-13)
Many of the tribes in Israel are a very important part of the story of Our Heavenly Father. None of them are removed. There are many gates in Israel and they are known for a lot of gates. Some are fish gates, water gates, etc. The most famous is the Ephram gate. There are 12 tribes all together, and people all share in them but sometimes a gate is designated for a certain group. For example, any tribe members from Judah tribe go through Judah gate. People also get marks on thier heads if they accept the beast, or if they are rich or poor.
Revelation 14:16 Then the one sitting on the cloud set his sickle to work on the earth, and the harvest of earth was reaped.
6 These words, which I am
commanding you today, shall be
on your heart. 7 You shall teach
them diligently to your sons and
shall talk of them when you sit in
your house and when you walk by
the way and when you lie down
and when you rise up. 8 You shall
bind them as a sign on your hand,
and they shall be as frontals on
your forehead. (Deut. 6:6-9).
Then I looked, and behold,
the Lamb was standing on Mount
Zion, and with Him 144,000 who
had His name and the name of His
Father written on their foreheads.”
(Rev. 14:1)– two names.
closing prayer; Heavenly Father we pray that you bring your salvation to every people, tribe, language, nation on the earth. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
