We are using a version of the bible that is used to explain the book of revelation better and hebrew is used with it as well. It is the Jerusalem bible. We will be using it for the book of revelation and later for the book of Hebrews. That will be only time we will use this bible.
We are trying to make it fun for you to understand the book of revelation and the book of Hebrews. That is why we are using this bible.
Revelation 1: 1-2 1:1 In the beginning God created heaven and earth.
1:2 Now the earth was a formless void, there was darkness over the deep, with a divine wind sweeping over the waters.
Enoch 1:1 The word of the blessing of Enoch, how he blessed the elect and the righteous, who were to exist in the time of trouble; rejecting all the wicked and ungodly. Enoch, a righteous man, who was (1) with God, answered and spoke, while his eyes were open, and while he saw a holy vision in the heavens. This the angels showed me.
(Rev. 1:1-2)
A revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his good volunteer servant, things that must soon take place. And he signified and communicated it by his angel to his bond-servant John, who testified to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, whatever he saw.
”“Jesus Christ” is a thoroughly Jewish name and a Jewish title. a first century shortened version of the name Joshua. That is Jesus’ actual name, a name by which he was known to his parents, friends, and to his followers.
Christ is a Jewish idea of someone “anointed” or literally “smeared in oil” – Mashiach a leader who was called and set apart for a special mission. This term would not make much sense in the greater Hellenistic culture, but Jews receiving this text would recall that prophets, priests, and kings were ceremonially anointed for the task of leading God’s people. And that is what this term communicates.
Now, this opening may seem unremarkable to a modern reader. However, the comparison shows that John’s letter begins much like other Jewish apocalyptic writings of the period. We can therefore say that Revelation fits very well into the framework of ancient Jewish literature.
Summary of the book of revelation chapter 1 1-2 and Enoch chapter 1:1.
Jesus came to John the appostle in a vision and said to him about writing letters to the churches. These letters became the book of Revelation. Joshua is Jesus’s real name, which he is known by his family, friends, and people that would follow him. It is a shortened name that meant Joshua. Christ means someone who is a very strong leader who is very annointed. Many of the kings and priests and servants were given the assignment to teach Our Heavenly Father’s people about Jesus and the mission. Part of the book of Revelation also discusses about ancient literature in the jewish culture. Enoch was blessed with a gift to help get his people that had things that were not of him out of them. Our Heavenly Father appeared to Enoch in a vision and gave him this gift and spoke to him.
Note; We will be doing a series on the book of revelation next week to make sure you understand it; and enjoy the special facts that we may include in it as we go through this series. Please try to learn the book of revelation because the more you know this book the more people will respect you due to the knowledge you get. But do not show off about it. This is the most important book in these times right now. We are doing a different style of writing but it is still Jessie K. Weiss and Raynette K. Weiss doing it, no one else.
