Poetry is sometimes described as a way of worship. It also shows there is more to worship than music, and singing one day a week. It is also a way that Our Heavenly Father can teach how to make it in the world we live in today. We should also remember this week the importance of being thankful to the lord.
Some of the old testament is written in poetry form. There are 4 books that do this. Psalms, Proverbs, Lamentations, and song of songs. You can also find poetry like writings in the books of Ecclesiastes, Genesis, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Samuel, and Judges. The poetry of the Bible is beautiful and powerful. It has been written with imagination, and it needs to be read with imagination. Our Heavenly Father will use Poetry in the bible to help a message stand out so the person reading it will pay more attention to what He is trying to tell his people.
Here is a summary of the poetry in the book of Psalms.
Psalm 23 is the most famous of the psalms, it is a lot of hymns that put together a whole book of the Bible. The psalms were originally written in Hebrew; the translation we’re using here comes from the King James Bible, an influential 17th-century English translation in the Protestant Christian tradition. In this poem, a speaker rejoices in their faith. God, to this person, is both a gentle “shepherd” who protects his flock even in the “valley of the shadow of death,” and a host who spreads a generous banquet of joy. This is a hymn to the goodness of God and the deep consolations of belief in hard times. Faith, to this speaker, is the antidote to fear.
Psalms is a very important book because it shows how to read poetry and sing at the same time. These are two very important things to help get through life here on earth, and it shows how important it is to read and get to know the bible, which is your Heavenly Father’s word, and it shows how to hear him, walk with him and become a child of his. It is also important to read in these times the book of Revelation which we have been teaching for weeks. It is actually a blueprint to the whole bible.
“Psalm 23”
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of m y life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father we pray that people get to know how important poetry is to you and music and song. We hope that if they do not understand this that you will help them understand it and the Holy Spirit will help them understand as well. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Prayer of Salvation to become a child of Our Heavenly Father. Lord Jesus, I confess my sins and ask for your forgiveness. Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
