Lesson:
In the Bible, Thanksgiving is a day to:
- Express gratitude: Give thanks for God’s gifts, and acknowledge that all good things come from God
- Recognize blessings: Share blessings with others, and be thankful in all seasons
- Look inward: Be content, humble, and look to God for guidance
- Remember ancestors: Remember the struggles of ancestors.
The Bible includes many examples of people giving thanks, including:
- Hannah: After God gave her Samuel, Hannah responded with great thanksgiving
- Daniel: Daniel gave thanks and worshipped God endlessly, even when threatened by King Darius
- Paul: After experiencing a change of heart, Paul became grateful to God for giving him life
- Job: Even after losing everything, Job decided that God was worthy of praise
The Bible also teaches that believers should give thanks for material things, and consecrate them with prayer.
According to Strong’s definitions, the Hebrew word thanksgiving is tôwdâh (to-daw’) and it means confession, praise, and offering. In the biblical narrative, Thanksgiving is depicted as a form of worship, transcending the material offerings to a deeper, more profound acknowledgment of God’s providence.Jesus Heals the Ten Lepers: A Thanksgiving Sunday School from Luke 17. On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus was approached by 10 men with the incurable disease of leprosy. Moved with love and compassion, Jesus healed them all! Surprisingly, only one of the ten lepers (a Samaritan) returned to give Jesus thanks.
Closing Prayer: Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have done for us. We thank you for the splendor of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
