Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

  • Philippians 4:8 “From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise.”
  • Job 8:7: “Although your former state was ordinary, your future will be extraordinary.

Lesson:

The Bible has multiple meanings for New Year’s, including:

  • A day of resetting hearts
Christians can use New Year’s Day to re-orient themselves towards a new future and to turn to Christ every day
  • A day to consider and judge
The celebration of New Year at midnight can represent the idea of postponed judgment, where the old has passed and the new lies ahead.
  • A day to be renewed
Ephesians 4:22-24 encourages people to put off their old selves and be renewed in the spirit of their mind
  • A day to remember God’s plan
Psalm 139:16 says that God had a special plan for each person’s life before the beginning of time.
  • A day to remember God’s bounty
Psalm 65:11 says that God crowns the year with his bount
  • A day to remember God’s new birth
1 Peter 1:3 says that God has given people new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is a day to reflect on the year, eat sweet foods, and blow a ram’s horn trumpet. The first mention of Rosh Hashanah in the Bible is in Leviticus 23:24

This is the real new year, according to the Bible—the month when the tribes of Israel became a faith community and the whole nation set off.

The biblical new year is passover and it connection to Messiah is that is when he was crucified. He was brought into the home and nourish there for 7 days and on the eight day was crucified. He became the passover lamb and described such at the last supper that we now call communion. Partaking of His blood and body.

On the eve of the New Year, a new consciousness dawns on earth. God once again inspires each human being, each creature, with new hope, new light, new peace and new joy. God says, “The New Year dawns and a new consciousness dawns within you.

Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none. May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God’s blessings shower upon you and bestow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year.

Spend it in quiet meditation or prayer as a way to start the year in peace and harmony. Make sure you arrange for your meditation time to extend past midnight. It’s the perfect way to not only start a brand new year but end an old one. You can also do this with others if you prefer.

Closing Prayer: May God bless you with a safe, healthy, and joyous New Year. Sending you well wishes and praying for you in the coming year! May God bless your family with prosperity, good health, and happiness in the New Year. May God help you strengthen your bond with family and friends this New Year. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.

  • Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
