Opening Hymn: Lead us Heavenly Father Lead us by James Edmeston;
Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
o’er the world’s tempestuous sea;
guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
for we have no help but thee;
yet possessing every blessing,
if our God our Father be.2 Saviour, breathe forgiveness o’er us:
all our weakness thou dost know;
thou didst tread this earth before us,
thou didst feel its keenest woe;
lone and dreary, faint and weary,
through the desert thou didst go.3 Spirit of our God, descending,
fill our hearts with heavenly joy,
love with every passion blending,
pleasure that can never cloy:
thus provided, pardoned, guided,
nothing can our peace destroy.
Sermon:
Our Heavenly Father hears us through prayer, which is a way of communicating directly with him through our thoughts and words, with the understanding that as an all-knowing being, he can hear our prayers regardless of where we are or how we express them, including silent prayers or thoughts in our hearts; this is often described as a personal connection with God where he is always listening and attentive to our needs and desires. Omnipresence:
God is believed to be everywhere at all times, meaning he can hear our prayers no matter where we are.
The Bible and other sources say that God has many promises for his children, including:
- Love: God loves his children no matter what other relationships they have.
- Peace: God promises to provide peace that is beyond anything on earth. He also promises to trade our anxiety for his peace.
- Protection: God promises to spiritually protect those who belong to him.
- Salvation: God promises eternal life to those who believe in him.
- Provision: God promises to provide for our needs.
- Comfort: God promises comfort in our trials.
- New life: God promises new life in Christ.
- Inheritance: God promises to reserve an inheritance for us in heaven and on earth.
- Covenant: God promises to fulfill the promises of covenants that we make with him.
- Forgiveness: In Islam, God promises forgiveness and a great reward to those who believe and do good deeds.
- Freedom: God promises freedom from addictions, deliverance from sin and evil, and freedom from fear and anxiety.
- Healing: God promises healing.
- Strength: God promises strength.
God’s relationship with us as a father is a beautiful gift. If you have been blessed to have a loving earthly father, this will be an easier concept to grasp.
Yet, He also promises to give us everlasting joy, reminding us that He has overcome this pain-filled world. The Lord’s covenant of love is a two way response—His covenant is certain, but it is conditional on His people’s obedience.
God so passionately loves his people that he makes a covenant of peace with them. The steadfast love of the Lord will not depart from you. This covenant of peace with God will not be removed. The servant would come and bring a covenant that would never be removed.
The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace.” Psalm 119:165: “Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.”
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.
When the Spirit of God moves into your heart and begins to live on the inside of you. God is the one who created this peace and He gives it to us through Jesus, by the Holy Spirit. Jesus purchased our forgiveness, our salvation when He died for us on the cross. He paid the price for our forgiveness, our peace with God.
Next, the psalmist writes of promises given by the Lord to those who belong to Him: protections from enemies, plagues and pestilence; God’s faithfulness as a shield around them; and His angels given charge to protect them (91:3-13). no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.
He will establish you and guard you against the evil one. Psalm 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you.If you read
Psalm 91, you will see that it isn’t just a powerful prayer, but it’s a promise that God’s care will be bestowed upon you: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. ‘
Closing Hymn: Hymn of promises by Nancy Allen;
In the bulb, there is a flower
In the seed, an apple tree
In cocoons, a hidden promise
Butterflies will soon be free
In the cold and snow of winter
There’s a spring that waits to be
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see
There’s a song in every silence
Seeking word and melody
There’s a dawn in every darkness
Bringing hope to you and me
From the past will come the future
What it holds, a mystery
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see
In our end is our beginning
In our time, infinity
In our doubt, there is believing
In our life, eternity
In our death, a resurrection
At the last, a victory
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come before you today, trusting in your unwavering promise of protection. As I navigate through life’s uncertainties, I find comfort knowing that you are my shield and my refuge, covering me with your wings and shielding me from all harm. Keep me safe from dangers seen and unseen, and guide my steps with your loving hand. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
