Isaiah 66:2.
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being? declares the Lord. These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word.
Ezra 9:4.
Then everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled until the evening sacrifice.
James 1:21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
Matthew 17:20. He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Lesson:
What does it look like to take word seriously? I think a person who takes it seriously will be curious about it and motivated to learn it. And once they learn it, they’ll be intentional to obey it because they trust its source. Conversely, a person who doesn’t take God’s word seriously won’t examine it, won’t commit it to memory, and won’t obey it. They’ll simply continue to obey their own passions and the changing values of their culture, mindless of the consequences of their spiritual ignorance. Through your faith in Jesus Christ, you are called and equipped to stand firm in the midst of a world that tends to adopt a very unstable value system for itself. Let your mind dwell on this truth. Let your eyes see beyond the present moment. Give your heart permission to anchor itself in the words and works of Jesus Christ.
To take Our Heavenly Father seriously is to have a reverential fear of Our Heavenly Father. By doing so we gain true spiritual wisdom and knowledge on how we are to live, how to work, and how to teach others. We can be assured that Our Heavenly Father will do what He says that He will do.
So, to get serious about Our Heavenly Father means you have to give it all away to Him. These things you own, the job you have, the money you have earned, those are all from Him! Our Heavenly Father has blessed you in so many ways and how do you repay Him? Pray every once in a while and go to church most Sundays? Taking God seriously means taking seriously what matters to Him: lost souls, poverty, injustice, unforgiveness, fear and unbelief. Seriousness over our sins that sent Jesus Christ to the cross calls us to repentance!
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father help us to take you seriously and your word, and obey all commandments you give us. We pray all who read this lesson understand it. That the Holy Spirit will help them understand it if they do not. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Prayer for renewing faith
Heavenly Father, I’m asking You to give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to receive Your correction and guidance, as I seek a faith revolution in my life—a dramatic turnaround in my thinking, believing, speaking and acting. I ask You to give me the strength to hold strong in the days ahead.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
