- God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them. He is worthy of praise (Genesis 1).
- God forgives us our sins (1 John 1:9).
- God heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 147:3).
- God has given us His Son and Eternal Life (1 John 5:11-12).
Lesson:
Prayer is God’s way for us to receive what we need from Him (Heb. 4:16). He tells us the reason we don’t have what we need is because we haven’t asked or because we are asking selfishly (James 4:2-4). We also need to pray because we have an enemy, the devil, who wants to rob us of the good things God wants to give us. We should pray to our Father to thank Him for our welfare and comfort and for all things He gives us each day (see 1 Thessalonians 5:18). We need to pray to ask our Heavenly Father for strength to live the gospel. We should pray so we can keep on the strait and narrow path that leads to eternal life. The Lord’s Prayer encourages Christians to cling to God’s will, to seek forgiveness, to seek God’s help in avoiding temptation and to ask for protection against Satan. Each time we pray the Our Father, we ask for God to give us all that sustains us, to forgive us our sins, to guide us away from temptation, and to deliver us from evil. Why would Christ want us to ask for what we need? By praying this way, we admit that we can’t pick ourselves up by our bootstraps. Why does Jesus teach us to pray “our” Father? A: Jesus teaches us always to understand ourselves not only as individuals but as members of God’s family of believers, and to pray accordingly. So the “our” is all the children of God. “Our” sets us in a family. Heavenly Father desires a fulness of joy for all of His children. He provided a plan whereby His children may become like Him and receive a fulness of joy. This plan is often referred to as the plan of salvation, the plan of redemption, or the plan of happiness. Jesus said that prayer should be a private time between God and the worshipper. Jesus does not mean that it is wrong to pray with others, but the prayers should be sincere and for the right motives.Jesus taught his disciples, and us, to pray the Lord’s Prayer in the plural voice because our lives here on Earth aren’t about you and me individually, but rather, about you and me – us – here together. Jesus knew that community is an integral component of faith. Prayer is your lifeline to God. Pray in times of happiness. Pray for others.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father help us to pray to you more and realize how important it is for communication; and to help us tell you what we need, In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Prayer for renewing faith
Heavenly Father, I’m asking You to give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to receive Your correction and guidance, as I seek a faith revolution in my life—a dramatic turnaround in my thinking, believing, speaking and acting. I ask You to give me the strength to hold strong in the days ahead.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
