The phrase “love your neighbor as yourself” means to love others unconditionally and generously, in the same way that you love yourself. It’s a commandment that appears in the Bible in Mark 12:31 and Matthew 22:39.
Here are some ways to love your neighbor as yourself:
- Get to know them: Go outside of your comfort zone to learn more about your neighbor.
- Do something for them: Bake cookies, run an errand, or offer to babysit.
- Let them know you care: Leave a note, a baked good, or some flowers on their doorstep.
- Pray for them: Directly pray for them by name.
- Be there for them: Be someone they can rely on, and they’ll likely do the same for you.
- Nurture yourself: Practice self-care so you have the energy to love others.
Loving your neighbor as yourself can create a cycle of giving and receiving, which can strengthen your community.
Loving our neighbor would include sharing with the poor and the alien; compassion and absolute honesty and justice in our relationships with others.
It means to treat others how you want to be treated. Give them and love and you want for yourself. Wish them well as you wish for yourself. Sometimes, to “love your neighbor as yourself” means going outside of ourselves to get to know them. And that can take sacrifice. Of course in order to do this effectively you need to do good for yourself. You need to understand the lord want you to feel good about yourself, not bad. If you feel good about yourself you will feel good about your neighbor.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us unconditionally and completely in Jesus. Help us to be a good neighbor to the people You place in our life today. Help us to love them in ways that best reflect Your love for them”. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
