Lesson:

In Christianity, the Christmas tree has multiple symbolic meanings, including:

  • The tree of life: The tree represents the life-giving tree of the cross of Christ.
  • The tree of paradise: The Christmas tree symbolizes the original Tree of Paradise.
  • The burning bush: The Christmas tree represents the burning bush that spoke to Moses.
  • The branch of Jesse: The Christmas tree represents the branch of Jesse from which Jesus was born.
  • The resurrection: The Christmas tree symbolizes Jesus’s death and resurrection, as a tree is cut down and then raised up again.
  • The gifts: The gifts around the tree represent the gifts of forgiveness, love, and glory that Jesus gave to us.
  • The shape: The triangular shape of the tree represents the Holy Trinity
  • The branches: The upward-pointing branches symbolize praise to God.
  • The lights: The lights on the tree represent how Jesus came as the light into the world.
  • The star: The star on top of the tree represents the star that the wise men followed to Bethlehem.

The Bible does not command or prohibit the use of Christmas trees. The custom of decorating a tree at Christmas likely came to the United States with German immigrants or Hessian troops during the American Revolution

Closing Prayer:

My brothers and sisters, amidst signs and wonders Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea: his birth brings joy to our hearts and enlightenment to our minds. With this tree, decorated and adorned, may we welcome Christ among us; may its lights guide us to the perfect light.

Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
