In the Catholic Church, June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart is celebrated on the Friday after the second Sunday of Pentecost. The feast originated in 1673, when a French nun named Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque received visions of Jesus. The month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost, which this year is 19 June.June has an energy about it, of life and stability and strength. The Oak tree is also associated with the summer solstice in June – again a symbol of solidness and strength. April’s showers and May’s flowers have now moved into fullness of life. June is traditionally a month during which communities and individuals are consecrated or renew their consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.Ever since, the month of June has been devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and his immense love for all of humanity. On the current calendar, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a solemnity, the highest-ranking feast in the liturgical calendar, although it is not a holy day of obligation.June is named after the Roman goddess Juno – the god of marriage and childbirth, and the wife of Jupiter, king of the gods. Here she is seated in a chariot. Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
