Lesson:
In the Bible, Wednesday is the day of preparation for the Passover Sabbath, and Thursday is the day of the Sabbath.
Wednesday
In the Bible, Wednesday is called yom re•vi•ee, which means “the fourth day”. On Wednesday, Christians remember the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot. This day is traditionally a fast day, and is also known as Spy Wednesday, Good Wednesday, or Holy Wednesday.
The name Wednesday comes from the god Woden, who is similar to the Roman god Mercury.
Jesus brought the New Covenant during His ministry, and His death put an end to the sacrificial system by His “once for all” offering of Himself for our sins (Hebrews 9:23-28). As this prophecy shows, His crucifixion occurred in the middle of the week – a Wednesday.
On Wednesday Jesus stayed out of the public eye. On this day, Jesus and His disciples had gone to the home of a man in Bethany known as Simon the leper
Thursday
In the Bible, Thursday is called yom cha•mi•shee, which means “the fifth day”. On the fifth day of creation, God filled the waters with living creatures and birds, and created crocodiles.
The name Thursday comes from the god Thunor, or Thunresdæg, which means “the day of Thunder.Though Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of Holy Week were filled with harrowing experiences that seemed to be drawing Him ever nearer to His death. Also known as Maundy Thursday, this day commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ and the washing of his disciples’ feet. The Last Supper is when Jesus established the sacrament of Holy Communion, also known as the Lord’s Supper or communion. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an act of “servant leadership” to show them how to love one another.
A tradition in the Christian church that commemorates the death of Christ. During a Tenebrae service, candles are extinguished as the story of Christ’s death is told, until only one light remains. This light is then removed from the sanctuary to symbolize Christ’s three days in the tomb.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father our souls delight in You! Your love never fails. It goes before us, leading us through every step of the day. We thank you in the name of Our lord and savior.
Lord Jesus take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
