Note; As you read this lesson, keep in mind that salt was always a preservative for food. It is also a preservative biblically speaking as well. Read this lesson very well so your faith will get stronger.
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Mark 9:50; Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with each other.”
Colossians 4:6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
James 3:12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Leviticus 2:13 Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of the covenant of your God out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.
Biblical Lesson about salt:
Luke clarifies that when Jesus warns of losing our saltiness, He’s not describing table salt; He’s describing fertilizer salt. Yes, as the salt of the earth, we are agents of human flourishing. Jesus is calling us to be fertilizer in His Kingdom. The Bible contains numerous references to salt. In various contexts, it is used metaphorically to signify permanence, loyalty, durability, fidelity, usefulness, value, and purification. Salt is used for various spiritual reasons, with several testimonies recorded from breakthrough to restoration to spiritual protection, fortification, and others. This is why it is often used in important events and rituals that involve declarations and prayers. It is into this situation that Jesus wants to rub the salt of his followers. Jesus sprinkles us like salt into the world to prevent the erosion of kingdom values, to prevent the decay of society, to fight against the tide of inhumanity and oppression. Why does Paul tell us to season our conversation with salt? He means that our words should be tasty and delightful to people who may hear them. Our words can also be used as a preservative—to build and to strengthen relationships. Salt symbolizes a long-lasting friendship and relationship between people and that too, is one of our key values –building enduring relationships within our teams, with our suppliers, business partners and customers. Today, salt is easily and cheaply available. In the second book of Chronicles, God’s covenant with the Davidic kings of Israel is also described as a covenant of salt. According to the New Oxford Annotated Bible, “of salt” most likely means that the covenant is “a perpetual covenant, because of the use of salt as a preservative”. Never forget to add salt to your grain offerings”(Leviticus 2:13 NLT). Salt was the opposite of leaven. Salt was always to be added to the sacrifice, but never leaven. Salt represented purity and preservation, Salt is offered to the deity here to make your wishes come true. Devotees offer salt in case they have lost something or to get cured of skin or stomach diseases. Those who have made the salt-offering firmly believe in the divine power of it and vouch for the effectiveness of it.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, may I be the salt that takes away the blandness in the routine of living, That prevents the rottenness of hatred and greed from expanding around me, That brings compassionate healing to anguished souls I encounter.
Lord Jesus; Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
