Joel 2:21-25.
2:21 Do not be afraid, land of Judah; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things!
2:22 Do not be afraid, you wild animals, for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.
2:23 Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the Lord your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
2:24 The threshing floors will be filled with grain; the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
2:25 I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm my great army that I sent among you.
Luke 13:6-9.
13:5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
13:6 Then he told this parable: A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any.
13:7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, For three years now Ive been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and havent found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?
13:8 Sir, the man replied, leave it alone for one more year, and Ill dig around it and fertilize it.
13:9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.
Lesson:
The fig tree could be understood as symbolic of Israel Joel 2:21–25. The parable of the barren fig tree is a parable of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of Luke 13:6–9. A vine keeper holds out hope that a barren fig tree will bear fruit next year. Fig trees represent our earthly nature as co-creators. As a keystone species, the fig awakens our collective memory of belonging to each other. It inspires us to share our creative energy and desires. Figs resemble a woman’s womb, signaling that now is a fertile time in our life. The fig is known as the fruit of Heaven because In Koran, in Surah At-Tin God swears upon fig by saying “by the fig, and the olive.” Prophet Muhammad, in one of his hadiths, said “If a Fruit ever descended from Paradise, I would say that this is it, as heaven’s fruits contain no pips. Eat from it…” Fig had been a symbol of abundance in Ancient Greece and Egypt. The fig tree is a symbol of abundance, fertility and sweetness.Fig trees are keystone species in many rainforests, producing fruit year round that are important food sources for thousands of animal species from bats to monkeys to birds. The fig tree in the bible is also symbolic of Israel itself—it often symbolized the health of the nation both spiritually and physically.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father, thank You for the lesson of the fruitless fig tree which illustrates the barrenness that comes from a hardened heart which refuses to acknowledge sin and turn to Christ for forgiveness and life. I pray that I may abide in Him and He in me so I may be a fruitful branch during this Church age, when the gospel of grace is being preached worldwide. I pray that despite Israel’s rejection of their Messiah and the partial blindness that has covered their spiritual eyes, that many will turn to Jesus for salvation today. And I pray for that day when the entire nation of Israel will call on the name of the Lord and be saved. This I ask in Jesus’ name.
Prayer for salvation; Lord Jesus; Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take
complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
