Deuteronomy 1:33
He led them through the wilderness, picking safe spots for them to camp. It was like having an excellent guide. They camped under stars, knowing God chose their spot. A verse from Deuteronomy says God carefully picked each place ahead of time for His people.
Deuteronomy 8:1-10. 8:1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors.
8:2 Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.
8:3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
8:4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.
8:5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.
8:6 Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him.
8:7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good landa land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills;
8:8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;
8:9 a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
8:10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.
Lesson:
Camping is one of the many tools God uses in the lives of His people. He uses wilderness type experiences to mold us, to build character, and teach life lessons to those of us He has called to serve Him. There is just something about this setting that God has been pleased to use over and over again. He used it all throughout Biblical times and He continues to use it today. In Deuteronomy 8, God is preparing His people to enter the Promised Land. (Read Deuteronomy 8:1-10.) According to verse two, God brought His people through the wilderness to humble them. If you have ever been on a primitive camping trip, you certainly have experienced that. God says the extended camping season of their lives was to test them, to refine them. Camp” can be anything keeping you in one place – stagnated and without progress. To “Advance”, thus, is to move forward and make progress. God wants His people to always make progress, to be fruitful and to set new records. What is the meaning of Bible camp? This basically means we will tell campers about Jesus Christ through Bible studies and our own personal witness, with the hope that they will pursue their own relationship with Christ. The structure of our program, and the kind of staff we hire each summer, reflect that mission.
The tent was the center of worship and was the place where Moses would meet God face to face (Exodus 33:11). The tabernacle is full of symbolism — all pointing to Jesus. Today, because of Jesus, who is “God with us” (Matthew 1:23), we can enter God’s presence no matter what building or structure we happen to be in.
Origin of camp1. First recorded in 1520–30; from Middle French can, camp, originally dialect (Normandy, Picardy) or from Old Provençal, from Italian campo, from Latin campus “field, battlefield”; compare Old English campe, compe “battle, battlefield” (cognate with German Kampf “struggle”), from Germanic, from Latin.
Closing Prayer; Heavenly Father We thank you for bringing us together in this place, to celebrate the recreation, the re-creation, of enjoying the fun and community of camping. We thank you for all the people in our lives, and especially those who have gathered with us. In the name of Our lord and savior we pray.
Lord Jesus; Please come into my heart as my Lord and Savior. Take complete control of my life and help me to walk in Your footsteps daily by the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me and I know you will answer my prayers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
