Bible verse of the day; Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Opening Hymn; Father in Heaven we do believe by Jane Romney Crawford;
- 1. Father in Heav’n, we do believeThe promise thou hast made;Thy word with meekness we receive,Just as thy Saints have said.
- 2. We now repent of all our sin And come with broken heart,And to thy covenant enter inAnd choose the better part.
- 3. O Lord, accept us while we pray,And all our sins forgive;New life impart to us this day,And bid the sinners live.
- 4. Humbly we take the sacramentIn Jesus’ blessed name;Let us receive thru covenantThe Spirit’s heav’nly flame.
- 5. We will be buried in the streamIn Jesus’ blessed name,And rise, while light shall on us beamThe Spirit’s heav’nly flame.
- 6. Baptize us with the Holy GhostAnd seal us as thine own,That we may join the ransomed hostAnd with the Saints be one.
We are changing our formats from time to time this week. Please let us know which one you like. Stay tuned for an unusual week for the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms could take a couple of weeks to do.
The biblical meaning of the book of psalms is a sacred song or poem used in worship.
The Book of Psalms is a collection of prayers and songs compiled throughout Israel’s history. It gets its name from the Septuagint, translated simply as “Songs,” although its name in Hebrew is best translated as “Songs of Praise” or “Hymns.” There are four main categories of the psalms: (1) prayers for aid or laments, (2) psalms or prayers of thanksgiving, (3) psalms or prayers of praise, and (4) royal psalms connected with the monarchy or the divine king. Many of the psalms were used in public worship, and many textual indications suggest that they formed an important part of the temple worship of ancient Israel. The psalms are divided into five books: (1) Psalms 1–41, (2) Psalms 42–72, (3) Psalms 73–89, (4) Psalms 90–106, and (5) Psalms 107–150. The purpose of these five divisions and their implications for the nature of the compilation of the book of Psalms has been debated by scholars. This is an introduction to our lessons for next week.
