Rev.Raynette K. Weiss and Associate Pastor Jessie K. Weiss. We are two of Our Heavenly Father’s vessels. The Golden Rule. Tuesday September 16, 2025.

The Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” is a fundamental ethical principle found in the Bible. In its biblical context, Jesus presents this rule in Matthew 7:12 as a summary of the Law and the Prophets, signifying it as a core aspect of loving one’s neighbor. This concept has roots in the Old Testament’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself” from Leviticus 19:18, a command Jesus later identified as the second greatest commandment. The rule’s essence is to treat others with the same compassion, dignity, and respect you desire for yourself, promoting selfless action and aligning with God’s will.

Our Heavenly Father’s law. Jesus stated that Matthew 7:12 “sums up the law and the prophets”. This means the Golden Rule encapsulates the core of God’s instructions in the Old Testament, highlighting the importance of loving and treating others well.

The principle echoes the Old Testament’s command, found in Leviticus 19:18, to “love your neighbor as yourself”. Jesus identified this as the second of the two greatest commandments, showing its foundational role in faith. The parallel account in Luke 6:37-38, known as the “reciprocal principle,” suggests that the way we treat others with mercy and forgiveness is the same measure God will use with us. To live by the Golden Rule, one must be able to put themselves in another’s shoes and consider how they would want to be treated in the same situation. The rule encourages performing good deeds and showing love, even to those who are difficult or different. For Christians, living out the Golden Rule is crucial for demonstrating their faith effectively, ensuring their actions align with their proclaimed beliefs about God’s love and kindness.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father “Teach us, Lord, to follow the Golden Rule – to do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Show us where we have failed in this, and help us to correct our attitudes and our behavior. Destroy sinful self-love in our hearts and let love for you and others reign in its place. May we always seek and attain what is good, and harbor envy for none. Help us to soften the grief of others with comforting words, and to always give help to those in need. Grant us the courage to speak truth and the humility to work effectively with others, in the spirit of wisdom, charity, and love

Our lord and savior we pray. Please

forgive me of my sins against you, please come into my heart. By the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for Saving me.
