Give Thanks” is a hymn about maintaining a grateful heart even in difficult times, finding strength through faith in Jesus Christ. Written by Henry Smith Jr. in 1978 while he was struggling with unemployment and declining eyesight, its meaning is rooted in the belief that Christ’s sacrifice made it possible for the poor to be rich in a spiritual sense. The song encourages believers to be thankful for what Our Heavenly Father has given, particularly his son, Jesus, and to find strength in him, so that “the weak say, ‘I am strong,’ and the poor say, ‘I am rich’”.
Closing Prayer: Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the food I eat, the air I breathe, and the quiet moments of joy that make up my day. Teach me to recognize Your work in the small things and to respond with genuine thanks. In Jesus’ name.
