Obedience being a journey, not perfection” means that spiritual or personal growth through obedience is a continuous process of learning, striving, and course-correcting, rather than a state of no fault adherence to rules.
This is where Our Heavenly Father is more interested in a person’s willingness, sincerity, and continuous effort than in their ability to be flawless. Setbacks are expected, and growth comes from getting back up and continuing to follow the path. Obedience is considered a way to earn favor. It is about aligning one’s heart and desires with the divine, which deepens the relationship, much like how responding to a loved one’s request is an opportunity to serve them well. The journey often requires “walking without a map,” trusting that guidance will be provided one step at a time. This involves listening for direction (the Latin root of “obedience” means “to hear”) and acting on faith, even when the full picture is not clear.
Every act of obedience, even small or imperfect, contributes to spiritual growth and maturity. This process is empowered by grace and the support of community, not one’s own strength. Our Heavenly Father looks for a willing and responsive heart, not perfect execution. People like Moses and David were used because of their willingness to say “yes” when called. This is the reason for the ongoing pursuit and a heart that chooses to follow, which is a process of divine alignment and transformation, not instant perfection.
Closing Prayer: “Heavenly Father, I come before You, acknowledging my weakness and need for Your guidance on this journey of life. Thank You for calling me to follow You and for the promise of Your presence.
Lord, I confess my tendency to want my own way, to delay or resist Your voice. I pray for a heart that truly desires Your will above my own, one that finds joy in obeying You.
As I walk this path, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, making my heart sensitive to Your truth and pure in Your sight. Illuminate my steps with Your Word, helping me to see clearly and discern Your leading in every decision.
Strengthen me to resist temptations, to choose Your path even when it’s hard, and to trust Your leading when the way seems uncertain. Help me to carry my cross daily and follow You with courage, accepting Your trials as well as Your blessings.
May my life, my thoughts, and my actions bring glory to Your name, O Lord. Empower me to be a reflection of Your love and grace to the world. In Jesus’ name.
Our lord and savior we pray, please forgive me of my sins
against you, please come into my heart. By the power of the
Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord for saving me.
