The Book of Luke is a detailed, chronological account of the life, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Written by the physician Luke as the first half of a two-volume work (with the Book of Acts), it emphasizes Jesus as the universal Savior who brings salvation, forgiveness, and radical compassion to all of humanity. Ministry to the Outcast: Luke heavily highlights Jesus’s care for the marginalized, including the poor, women, Samaritans, tax collectors, and social Jesus is frequently depicted praying, and the HolyThe book is filled with songs of praise and emphasizes the joyous restoration that Jesus’s kingdom brings to the lostLuke opens with the parallel birth announcements of John the Baptist and Jesus. It covers Jesus’s baptism, his genealogy (traced all the way back to Adam), and his temptation in the wilderness. Jesus begins his public ministry in his hometown of Nazareth, declaring his mission to bring “good news to the poor and freedom for the oppressed”. He performs miracles, teaches the “Sermon on the Plain,” and commissions his twelve disciples. This large central section consists primarily of parables and teachings unique to Luke, such as the Good Samaritan, the Lost Sheep, and the Prodigal Son.
