: Deborah takes on the maternal role of nurturing a collapsing society back to life when the villages had ceased and main roads were abandoned. Chapter 5 shifts the credit from human generals to Our Heavenly Father, whose presence causes the earth to tremble and the stars in the heavens to fight Sisera’s army.. Israel slips back into sin and faces the brutal oppression of the Midianite. : When the angel of the Lord calls Gideon a “mighty warrior,” he is actually threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from invaders. He sees himself as the weakest in his clan. : Heavenly Father graciously accommodates Gideon’s crippling fear. By accepting the “fleece” tests, Our Heavenly Father proves His presence, though this highlights Gideon’s struggle to steut on pure faith alone.: Gideon must first destroy the altar of Baal and the Asherah pole in his own father’s backyard before he can lead the nation against outside Heavenly Father purposefully slims Gideon’s army from 32,000 men to just 300 to ensure that Israel cannot claim credit for the victory.22,000 men are sent home out of fear, showing that The Heavenly Father does not want a panicked, reluctant army.: Out of the remaining 10,000, only 300 men drink water by lapping it from their hands like a dog. This unusual selection method highlights that the battle belongs entirely to Our Heavenly Father, not human military prowess. : To completely remove Gideon’s remaining fear, God allows Gideon to overhear an enemy soldier’s dream about an Israelite loaf of bread destroying a Midianite tent, confirming the Lord has already delivered the camp. The Heavenly Father does not need large numbers, wealth, or powerful figures to accomplish His will; rather, He utilizes the weak and the willing to demonstrate His ultimate authority.

It is a song of celebration in the midst of the time of the judges, it is a victory song of praise to the LORD, the Heavenly Father of Israel, during a very dark periodThe people were obliged to live together in forti fied places; or in great numbers, to protect each other against the incursions of bands of spoiler. Judges 5 tells us that there were some warriors and there were some wimps. Closing Prayer: Father, thank You for the triumphs and lessons in Judges 5-7. I pray for the courage to stand strong in faith, just as Deborah arose to lead. Grant me a willing heart to serve, and help me reduce my own resources, like Gideon’s army, so that You alone receive the glory for the victories in my life. In the name of Our Lord and savior we pray.
