Changing Our Heavenly Father’s word is considered a serious sin in many religious traditions, warning against adding to or taking away from sacred texts. Passages like Revelation 22:18-19 and Deuteronomy 4:2 warn people not to change, add to, or take away from Our Heavenly Father’s words.
The text states that God’s words cannot be changed by anyone (Surah Al-An’am 6:34), and warns against those who write scripture with their hands and claim it is from Our Heavenly Father’s (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:79). Believers think sacred texts are pure truth, so changing them misleads people and goes against Our Heavenly Father’s will.Altering scripture or modifying its divine meaning is considered a profound and severe transgression across major monotheistic traditions. Religious texts explicitly warn that distorting divine revelation misleads believers, abuses spiritual authority, and compromises the integrity of sacred truth. The Christian and Jewish scriptures address the act of modifying divine commandments through specific prohibitions: Wisdom Literature: The book of Proverbs notes that altering holy text invites severe divine correction: “Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:6 The Book of Revelation: The final book of the Christiabiblical canon issues a severe warning regarding its prophetic text, stating that anyone who adds to or takes away from the prophecy will face plagues and the removal of their share in the tree of life (Revelation 22:18-19). In Islam, the deliberate alteration of prior scriptures is known as Tahrif. The Quran addresses this directly: [1, 2]where individuals knowingly altered divine texts for personal, political, or financial gain.Preservation of the Quran: Islamic theology holds that while previous revelations were subject to human manipulation, the Quran is divinely preserved against any future modifications or corruptionThe act of changing divine text is viewed gravely because it fundamentally shifts the seat of spiritual authority from the Creator to the human translator or editor. By misrepresenting divine intent, an individual risks creating false doctrines, causing division, and steering communities away from established moral and spiritual frameworks.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in awe of Your unchanging truth. Your Word declares that while the grass withers and the flowers fall, the Word of our Lord endures forever. We ask for the ultimate grace, wisdom, and courage to protect, honor, and submit to Your Holy Scriptures exactly as they are written, never twisting them to fit our own desires or cultural trends.
