7:1 My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.
7:2 Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
7:3 Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.
7:4 Say to wisdom, You are my sister, and to insight, You are my relative.
7:5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words.
7:6 At the window of my house I looked down through the lattice.
7:7 I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense.
7:8 He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house
7:9 at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.
7:10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent.
7:11 (She is unruly and defiant, her feet never stay at home;
7:12 now in the street, now in the squares, at every corner she lurks.)
7:13 She took hold of him and kissed him and with a brazen face she said:
7:14 Today I fulfilled my vows, and I have food from my fellowship offering at home.
7:15 So I came out to meet you; I looked for you and have found you!
7:16 I have covered my bed with colored linens from Egypt.
7:17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.
7:18 Come, lets drink deeply of love till morning; lets enjoy ourselves with love!
7:19 My husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.
7:20 He took his purse filled with money and will not be home till full moon.
7:21 With persuasive words she led him astray; she seduced him with her smooth talk.
7:22 All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose
7:23 till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.
7:24 Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.
7:25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.
7:26 Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng.
7:27 Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
A single, deliberate conditional sentence in the original Hebrew (verses 1–22) framed as a father’s urgent counsel to his son. It contrasts the active, wholehearted pursuit of divine wisdom with the destructive paths of folly and moral corruption.Receptive heart and ear: The son must treasure commandments, incline his ear, and apply his heart to understanding (verses 1–2).Vocal and emotional cry: He must cry out and lift his voice for insight (verse 3).Treasure hunt: Wisdom must be sought with the same relentless zeal, discipline, and desperation that people use to search for silver or hidden treasure The Fear of the Lord: The process leads to understanding the fear of the Lord (reverence and respect for His sovereignty) and discovering the knowledge of God (verse 5).God as the Origin: True knowledge and understanding come directly from God, who stores up sound wisdom for the upright (verses 6–7).Divine Shield: Wisdom acts as a protective shield (buckler)for those who walk in integrity, guarding paths of justice (verses 7–8). It grants inner discernment, righteousness, and equity (verse 9).Discretion and understanding preserve and keep the individual from making regretful choices (verses 10–11).The Path of Wicked Men (Verses 12–15): It delivers you from crooked, perverse men who abandon straight paths, delight in wrongdoing, and revel in darkness; The Path of the Adulterous/Immoral Woman (Verses 16–19): It delivers you from the seductive, smoothwordsoftheadulteress who forsakes covenant loyalty. Her path leads straight down to death and the shadows of the dead. The Upright: They will dwell securely in the land and remain. The Wicked: They will be cut off and uprooted from the earth.Pastor David walks us through Proverbs 2 as a complete acrostic poem about wisdom’s protective power in our lives. He opens with Solomon’s call“For wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant in to your soul.” Wisdom won’t be something that is merely outside of you. In this present passage of Proverbs the Lord urges us to diligently pursue godly wisdom and dedicate ourselves to it as it is offered to us in the Scriptures The Lord stores up sound wisdom for the upright. The Lord is a shield to those who walk with integrity. If you pursue God, then God has rewards for you. If you.
Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the wisdom found in Your Word. Help me to receive Your commands and store them deep within my heart.
Incline my ear to wisdom and apply my heart to understanding. Give me a hunger to cry out for insight and search for Your truth as if it were silver or hidden treasure.
Grant me the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God, knowing that You are the true source of all wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
Be a shield to me as I walk in integrity. Let Your discretion preserve me and Your understanding guard me from the paths of the wicked.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Salvation Prayer or sinners prayer:
