We are two of Our Heavenly Father’s vessels. We also obey Our Heavenly Father in what he wants us to do, we have a very good  and deep walk with him. We would like you to have that as well. Deep study of Memorial Day.  Monday May 25, 2026.

While Memorial Day is an American civic holiday, its core themes of sacrifice, remembrance, and passing down history align deeply with biblical principles. The Bible places immense spiritual value on “remembering” to keep our faith grounded and to honor those who have gone.In the Scriptures, “remembrance” (often the Hebrew word zikrown) is never just a passive mental recall. It is an active, living engagement with the past that shapes our present and future.

(Exodus 12): God commanded the Israelites to observe Passover as a perpetual memorial. It was an intentional annual practice to remember how God rescued them from slavery, ensuring that every generation understood the heavy price of their freedom.

(Joshua 4): After crossing the Jordan River, Joshua set up twelve stones. He instructed the Israelites to use these physical markers as teaching tools, so that when future generations asked, “What do these stones mean?”, they would recount God’s faithfulness. (Luke 22:19): Before His crucifixion, Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, commanding His followers to break bread and drink wine “in remembrance” of Him. It is the ultimate biblical model of a memorial centered around a selfless, life-saving sacrifice. Memorial Day is ultimately dedicated to honoring the men and women who laid down their lives for the benefit and freedom of others. This level of ultimate devotion directly echoes the highest moral standard taught in the New Testament. John 15:13: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus modeled this ultimate sacrifice on the cross, and earthly soldiers who make the same sacrifice reflect this profound, self-giving love.

1 John 3:16: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. While Memorial Day was not instituted directly in the Bible, Christians are encouraged to esteem days that promote gratitude and reflection. You can approach the holiday biblically through three main actions. Recognize the profound, selfless love of those who died for our physical freedoms. Use the holiday as a catalyst to share stories of courage, service, and history with your children, mirroring the generational storytelling of the Old Testamen. Let the earthly sacrifices we remember remind you of the ultimate spiritual freedom, grace, and eternal life won for humanity through Jesus Christ. For further reading on honoring those who sacrifice for others, you can explore scriptural reflections provided by Bible Study Tools or Reasons for Hope* Jesus.Thank God for a day to remember God’s common grace to America and his special grace in enlisting us in service to Christ our Captain We asked Major Adam Johns (USMC) “How should a Christian view Memorial Day?” What follows is his thoughtful and honest response.Of course, Memorial Day was not instituted in the Bible, but Romans 14:5 reminds us that it is perfectly acceptable to esteem some days above hroughout the Bible, this is why God tells His people to set up memorials, to tell the next generation of His mighty acts.
